Dr Khaled Abbas has Over 25 years of advisory/expert/specialist/academic experience with consultants, government & academic organizations. Such experience involved leading & managing transport groups/sections/departments and conducting consultancy projects/studies/research/training/teaching in fields of: strategic, urban and transport planning,  transport & traffic modelling, public transport, master plans, traffic engineering, traffic safety, parking, road hierarchy, feasibility studies, traffic and environment impact assessment, logistics management, restructuring, privatization, PPP, performance evaluation and sustainable development.

He is also experienced in the restructuring, reform & management of transport industry. His graduate studies include a Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering and Operations in 1991 from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK and Masters courses in Transport Engineering and Operations from the same university. He has held academic posts as a Professor at the National Institute of Transport (Egypt), King Faisal University (Saudi Arabia). He was also seconded to the Egyptian Military College, Egyptian Traffic Police, the United States Department of Transportation, the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, Department, Civil Engineering Department - Tanta University – Egypt and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Dr Abbas was awarded 2 of the most prestigious fellowships in USA, the first as a Senior Fulbright visiting scholar at University of Texas Austin in 1995 and the second as a Hubert Humphrey fellow at Cornell University in 00/01.

From 2005 to 2008 Dr Abbas was the manager of Transport Planning & Traffic Engineering group at Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation (SMEC) a lead engineering & development consultancy in Australia. He also held the position of part time Technical Principal at SMEC Australia. He also worked as Chief Specialist, Subject Matter Expert and at times acting manager in Transportation Policy, Legislation & Planning Section – Strategic Planning Department - Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai. He was involved in more than 150 transport consultancy/research projects/studies with SMEC Australia, Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Egypt National Institute of Transport, United Nations, World Bank as well as a number of Egyptian, Saudi and UK consultants. These projects were conducted in Australia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Turkey, Yemen, Algeria, Morocco, Dubai, Qatar, Kenya.  He published more than 95 journal articles & conference papers, as well as attended more than 46 conferences/seminars. He taught more than 30 specialised academic undergraduate and graduate courses as well as designed and delivered more than 35 training courses to professionals and senior managers from Australia, UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Ex Soviet union Countries.

Dr. Abbas is currently a member of the editorial board of Advances in Transportation Studies: an international traffic safety journal published by the University of Rome,  Journal of Transportation Technologies – Scientific Research Publishing Inc. - USA. Also acted as a reviewer for several international journals and conferences. He has also been a member of programme committee for traffic and transport safety stream.  Dr Abbas is a fellow member of the institute of Engineers Australia as well as being chair of the Transport Branch – Canberra Division – Institute of Engineers Australia as well as held membership in more than 10 international professional organizations in UK, USA, Canada and Egypt as well as member of 40 committees in Egypt, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, UK, Germany, USA. He also acted as a Technical Expert Witness in the Australian Parliament as well as for the Australian Capital Territory Court. Dr Abbas won several awards, plaques, recognition and thank you certificates (more than 30) from organizations including RTA Dubai, SMEC Australia, KFU Saudi Arabia, US Fulbright Commission, University of Newcastle upon Tyne in UK.  In addition biographical data selected & included in 17th to 25th Editions of Who’s Who in the World 2000 to 2008, as well as in 32nd, 33rd & 34th Editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, 6th, 7th & 8th Editions of Who’s Who in Science & Engineering.
